When general dentistry is talked about, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? That’s right, it’s that field of dentistry that excels at every aspect. From preventive measures to diagnosis and treatments, it covers a vast part of dentistry to keep up your oral health. However, even so, people tend to find themselves misinformed and believe that it is a very generalized portion of dentistry. However, that is not true and when you opt to make your trips to the dentist, it’s important that you do that while understanding exactly what treatments they are able to provide you.

If you’re someone who lacks knowledge on general dentistry, then you’ve come to the right place. This post will tell you all you need to know about procedures carried out in general dentistry.

All you need to know

There are several different dental procedures and you need to make sure you go to the right dentist in order to receive the best treatment. While most dentists are specific to their area of expertise, general dentistry forms as a vast variety that covers the major portions. Here are a few procedures you may find in general dentistry:

Procedure #1: Braces

This procedure is amongst the most common one and is dedicated to correcting the alignment of the teeth. Braces are devices that work by applying pressure on the teeth and moving them into the correct order.

Procedure #2: Extractions

This procedure is quite common as well, and allows the dentist to remove any damaged tooth. In most cases, even permanent teeth need to be extracted but usually this is to better the orthodontic treatment.

Procedure #3: Dentures

Dentures offer temporary solutions to the loss of teeth and can sometimes be termed as “false teeth” as well. However, most people tend to avoid dentures since they are known to cause severe discomfort and further deterioration of the jaw bone. The better option is to opt for dental implants which are another type of procedure. This gives a more natural look and generally improves the oral health.

Procedure #4: Veneers

They are known to repair chipped, stained or decayed teeth and are also able to significantly close-up any gaps that may be forming between the teeth. Veneers are basically strong resin that is bonded to the teeth and it helps to make the tooth look more complete.

Procedure #5: Teeth whitening

Teeth are known to get darkened or stained severely over time and when that happens, home remedies will only deteriorate it further. General dentistry helps to improve the color and regain the original whiteness of the teeth.

This list is not exhaustive, however, these are the most common procedures that allow your teeth to stay in excellent form. In order to make sure your oral health is perfect, make sure you keep up with regular appointments with your dentist. Take care of your oral hygiene, and you’ll be on your way to a healthy life!
